Ian Greenwood questions asked in the seminar:

  • How can we move on from academics concluding that there are policy implications from their research, but not how to influence the agenda and get traction for their ideas with issues of accessible language, relationships, and trust?
  • How can we better understand the relationship between the public, the media and politicians in setting agendas?
  • The policy image or how it is framed is influential in agenda setting, so how can we better frame the policy problem and solutions to establish and move forward agendas?
  • Ian Walker and co-authors suggest there is an unconscious bias in policy terms favouring private car travel and economic growth, and my own work finds the power of policy entrepreneurs within the freedom vs safety dynamic is a David and Goliath relationship. In this context, how can road safety policy entrepreneurs be more effective at competing with those lobbying for the car and oil and gas industry?
